Saif differentiated Vikram from Sartaj Singh, another police officer he played in the web series Sacred Games, saying Vikram is "much more dynamic, confident and strong" than Singh who was "kind of a victim, who would be slapped around by almost everybody. In August 2019, it was confirmed that Saif Ali Khan and Aamir Khan (no relation) would play the titular roles of the police officer Vikram and the gangster Vedha respectively. In March 2018, the director duo Pushkar–Gayathri announced that they would direct a Hindi remake of their Tamil film Vikram Vedha (2017), to be produced again by YNOT Studios the project would be co-produced by Friday Filmworks and Reliance Entertainment.
